Screen printing is still the most economical printing process as soon as a run exceeds a few dozen pieces: one screen, one squeegee, one ink, and every pass costs a few cents whatever the substrate — T-shirt, poster, cardboard, glass or industrial part. Since 1897, A.BUISINE has been equipping screen printing workshops; in this section you will find all the equipment and supplies, from screen preparation to clean-up after the run. We are here to advise you and help you develop your workshop.

Which kind of screen printing do you do?

Textile screen printing — T-shirts, sweatshirts, bags. Plastisol or water-based inks, manual presses and carousels, flash and tunnel curing. This is what most of our customers ask for: see our textile printing machines and inks.

Paper and board screen printing — posters, art editions, packaging. Water-based or solvent inks, vacuum tables and flatbed machines, fine mesh for halftones.

Object and industrial screen printing — glass, plastic, metal, electronics. Solvent or UV inks, high-tension screens, flatbed and semi-automatic machines.

Preparing the screen: frames, mesh, emulsion, exposure

A good print starts with a good screen. We stretch aluminium or wooden frames to size with high-quality European polyester mesh (Sefar or Saati), from open mesh for glitter to fine mesh for four-colour process, and we supply screens already coated and exposed from your file if you do not want to equip yourself. To prepare your own: photosensitive emulsions, degreasers, exposure units and UV lamps, film output of your positives or films and software to produce them in-house.

Our Academy guides detail every step, with the setting tables we use ourselves: choosing the mesh, degreasing the screen, coating the emulsion, setting the exposure time (with a downloadable calculator) and reclaiming a screen.

Printing: inks, squeegees, machines

Inks: plastisol for textiles (opacity, coverage, curing at 170 °C), water-based inks for a soft hand and for paper, solvent and UV inks for objects, plus special effects — fluorescent, gold and silver chrome, glitter, puff. Our screen printing inks come in pots for the workshop and in pails for intensive production.

Squeegees: polyurethane blades from 60 to 90 shore, straight, bevelled or rounded profiles, mounted on wooden or aluminium handles, sold by the metre or ready to use in our squeegees and coaters section.

Machines: from the 1-colour manual press to the automatic carousel. Vastex textile presses (1 to 6 colours, 4 to 6 stations), Anatol automatic carousels, manual or semi-automatic flatbed tables. Every machine is installed and handed over with you.

Curing, checking, cleaning

Flash units and drying tunnels to cure plastisol, infrared thermometers to check ink temperature, then reclaimers, ghost-image removers and stainless steel washout booths to recover your screens. Everything is in the screen printing supplies section.

Frequently asked questions

Plastisol or water-based ink? Each has an advantage and a limit. Plastisol does not dry in the screen, which makes printing easier, but it must be cured with a heat gun, a heat press or a tunnel. Water-based ink gives a softer hand and a more natural look on light textiles, and sets with a fixer mixed into the ink, without heavy curing equipment — many of our customers start this way — but it requires controlled printing so it does not dry in the screen. The choice depends on your curing equipment, the substrates you print and the finish you want.

Which mesh should I choose? 43 threads/cm for a covering solid on textiles, 77 to 90 threads for details and halftones on textiles, 120 threads and above for paper and four-colour process. The mesh selection guide gives the full table.

Do I need exposure equipment? No: send us your file and we deliver the screen ready to print. Equip yourself when the volume justifies it.

Do you supply public bodies and schools? Yes, with a quotation and payment by administrative mandate. See our public bodies page.
